Does it really matter what way the Drivshaft faces?

I have an 02 F350 7.3 Reg cab. I just had to take the driveshaft off my truck and have it re-tubed ... I took it to the machine shop a few days after I had taken it out. And they asked what yoke went to the axle and which went to the transfer case and i had forgotten at that point what way i had taken it out. I told them to put the mounting plat for the transfer case on the slip yoke end and the the axle end on the wide end of the drive shaft ... Then i got thinking about it and looking at pictures and it looks like that would be backwards and wrong. I went ahead and put it in that way with the slip yoke on the transfer case ... I dont think it would, but Is it gonna hurt anything being that way ?!?! Is there really any real reason for having the slip yoke on the axle, other then to prevent water from getting inside it ? .... all responses are appreciated ... THANKS !!!

Not sure if I quite understand the question, but all of the slip yokes I have ever seen are on the front end of the drive shaft ( or center support ) if that is what you mean.

Generally speaking, you want the splined end to be furthest from potential harm: so as high up as possible.
