Was black offered as an original color for the 51 ford pickup? Online paint library's don't indicate black as being available but I do see "restored as original" pickups painted black

Sure was, one of the more popular colors.

 

Ford Paint code A on firewall or Data plate (depending on production date) Ford# M-1724 Black synthetic enamel (or Raven Black) PPG # 9295 or 9000

 

Thanks for the info. I am sure you are correct and I have seen tag color charts that show the A code indicated the color as being black
Not sure why the one-line color library sites don't indicate black as a color for the 51's. They all show having 9 original colors, none are black.

This is from the official Ford salesman's handbook. It shows the different colors available, but also references black as being available in the text at the bottom. Presumably, we should all know what black looks like.
