first oil change 5.0 and a question

at 1500 miles I cleared out the factory oil and filter and
put in 8 qts of Mobile One Ext life and a Wix filter, oil is priced right
near me and I have had good luck with it

Sideways filter ? Really and a drip pan on the cross member ? Really ?
OMG ! I also own a 2015 Mustang GT,the 5.0 motor has
the filter set up proper and thats Oring up ! Why the heck
Ford set the truck up sideways filter burns me up !
I heard I can prime the filter by flooring the gas and cranking the motor
which I will check into but I always hated the idea of a dry filter going on my
cars or trucks..

Also noticed NO FUEL FILTER...........Another MFG strangled by the EPA to
save waste !? So that means the tank filter just has to die on me at I would guess 100K miles?

I really am not complaining as I love my new F-150 and think its a great truck
but I would love to meet these people who come up with these ideas !

My '02 5.4 also has a drip pan thingamajig under the oil filter, which is horizontal. It works good for me. I always clean the drip pan out so it won't clog.

I wish Ford would go to a cartridge filter that could accessed from the top of the engine or at least from inside the engine bay.

I agree there. That's about the only thing about my prior 6.0's that was easy. The filter on the 3.5EB is the worst location I have ever done.

I really liked that feature on my 6.0s as well.

The new 2.7 has a cartridge oil filter.

Out of several vehicles I still think the Nissan 3.3 V6 oil filter was by far the worst in Pathfinders and Frontiers. Oily sloppy mess with almost no access.

That's been a Ford standard for over a decade. Pedal to the floor and crank the engine, it will not fire until you let up off the pedal.

What the heck does the Environmental Protection Agency have to do with fuel filtration and system design?

These trucks have used a "lifetime" filter since 2009, and I don't think I've ever heard of one clogging. One guy on another forum has over 300,000 miles on his '11 and has never replaced the fuel filter. Not saying it's never happened, but I think you're jumping to conclusions and worrying about nothing.

The Mustang probably doesn't have the same oil cooler design that your F150 does, and there may have been packaging reasons behind the existing location. I don't have a 5.0L in my truck, but if you have the same drip pan over the differential it's probably in the same location as my EcoBoost. I've had '03, '07, '13, and now my '15 F150, and this is the easiest oil change out of all of them. If I had the 2.7L with its cartridge filter it would be even easier. Really jealous of that little motor sometimes.

good info...sadly the EPA has too much influence on our drivers..thats why diesel trucks have
skyrocketed in price.
Coming from a GM where our fuel pumps die at about 100K -120K not having a proper filter
and just having the sock in tank is def not to the owners advantage

I did my first oil change yesterday on the 3.5 Ecoboost and the filter is the same way. Today I started looking for a remote filter setup to get it facing e correct way in a more easily accessible area.
