1974 C600 Swapped transmission question

I drove my farm truck from north Dakota to Washington dc. The np435 burned up in the process. I found a nw542 and installed it. However, the drive shaft is not fitting correctly. What happened? Is the the 542 longer?

You're the one with both the tranys ..

If it doesn't fit, seems like the answer is pretty clear.

Nothing a lathe and a welder can't fix.

I was going to move the mount? Do you know if this transmission is going to work with the 2 speed eaton?

The trans will work with the two speed. You will have to figure out the. 4th and 5th ratio splits. Some ratio matchups require you to shift 4 lo to 5 lo, then back to 4 hi, then 5 hi. I suggest when you get to that stage that you experiment at moderate speeds with no load. (serving suggestion, your RPMs will vary)

Will the shifter work? C series shifters are a challenge.

C series shifters are a challenge indeed. The best advice I ever heard about for the shifting of the truck. SLOW. Don't try and Jam and slam. At first I tried jamming and slamming of course but it made things worse. Then I a guy at trucker supply gave me that tip and I slowed it down and it did the trick.
I don't know what you mean by the 4th and 5th split. Sorry would you elaborate more? The shifters seems to be working fine they have the exact same part number casted on them.

I added a comment above. What I mean is with a 4 speed, it is pretty much always going to be that 3 hi is lower than 4 lo. You always shift in sequence with that set up, running the gear from low to high, then shifting to the next gear in low, then high, then the next gear. This is not necessary in all cases as you can many times just use the two speed as an extra gear on the upshift side.

With a 5 speed, there are times when 5th low is a lower gear than 4th high. You get an engine overspeed situation if you are at the top of 4th high and shift into 5th low and what you've really done is a downshift!
