I recently replaced my Fordamatic distributor with a modified GM from Bubba's Ignition. I positioned the GM unit in the same orientation as the original. Do I have the correct location for the #1 spark plug wire? This is where it is shown on all of the diagrams I found; the location on the GM unit is not to the right of the clip because the clip is located differently from the original.
Right or wrong?
Modified GM distributor, #1 spark plug marked.
Perhaps coincidentally, the inside of the GM cap has a little mark at that location, if it matters.
It really doesn't matter, as long as the plugs each fire when they are supposed to. The only factor is whether the wires will all reach, and since I'd assume you are putting new ones in, probably not a factor.
BTW, most people consider that 49-53 diagram to be upside down. #1 is usually where #6 is shown, on the bottom side of the cap.

That's interesting, because my original cap is marked #1 exactly as you stated-where #6 is shown. I followed the diagram but now think that I should (and will) flip everything.
I suppose that I will find out for sure when I finally get to start it up.
