Sound deadening advice...

Hello all: I just started a 1965 F100 352 cu in. 4 Sp.
I am removing foam rubber someone stuffed in beside the fuel tank. It makes me think sound deadening is a good idea.

Is there a good sound deadening material that I can install that won't hold moisture, turn to sponge cake, behind, beside fuel tank? Maybe even above the head liner when I replace that?

Dacron?

And related, I want to try to do my own upholstery will i need to replace springs or just the foam rubber and vinyl?

Wondering in Weatherford.

I've used B-Quiet Ultimate in 2 restorations. Works well on the floor, inside doors, above the headliner.

I'm using a similar type of material sold in home improvement stores as roof flashing, a long with thicker insulation where it will fit.

I also used a construction material. It's asphaltic with an aluminum back. Works pretty well and it's free around the construction site, inexpensive at the store.

Remember, no matter what you end up using, make very sure the surface you are going to apply the material to, is absolutely clean and free of dirt, grease, and even wax. I cannot stress the importance of this. Especially when putting it on a area where it needs to hang.
There is a professional product you can get from your local automotive paint supply that is made especially for cleaning surfaces and not leaving any residue.
Well worth getting before you do the job.

Mine was "peel n stick" but I used contact cement on the sheets that hang. That's everywhere but the floor, pretty much.

Has anyone had any luck with using the foil faced insulation used on hvac duct work? It was recommended on a TV show to be used in place of more expensive application specific products.
