starters acting the fool!

I am done with the oem style starts for my 390 and have ordered a denso mini. got the truck with a reman in like new condition, that one had the bendix come apart. So got a reman in may last year, that one got to the point of only just clicking then to smoking. Got that one replaced under warranty in june, that one the noise broke. It was starting to skip off after 2 sec then it popped yesterday morning, what are these thing made out of. I have to pull a header to replace it so am not getting another anemic starter, these are not worth the effort involved. I would like to now how this one happened since it was tight and did not give a whole lot of prior notice.

No clue. I've had my AZ rebuild in my 428cj since 2007 with zero problems. You may have another problem other than the starter.

not saying there all bad just that Ive had some odd luck with them this round, 2nd may had been due to a falling out accel all-in-one dizzy. had no issues with a starter on a 360 in a 71 i had years back. Got the mini in a few days ago, to clock the starter away from the header I had to trim back the ear above it. It gives a nice effortless cranking and may want to invest in a heat wrap for it.
