Hi All,
I have a 2004 F150 with 4 w/d. When I shift it into 4 w?/d, the trans engages but the lights do not come on in either 4 high or 4 low. Does this vehicle have a 4w/d control box? If not, any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks for your help!

 

when you turn the **** to LO or HI 4 x 4 two things happen....... first, the electric motor on the transfer case moves to 4 x 4 and one light comes on.

second, you shut off vacuum to the front wheels IWE and it allows the front end to engage. Will post a sticky you can read for more info.

I really appreciate the complete explanation of how the 4 w/d system works. I still do not understand where the dash light gets the electricity to turn it on. I also wanted to know if there is a 4x4 control module in this pickup. Can anyone help me? Thanks!
