NEW Engine, Wont Start Air Locked?

Hello guys,

I recently installed a new 6.4 and it will NOT start.

I replaced the longblock, new inector lines and high pressure pump, cleaned injectors and so on.

When i crank it over it builds pressure from 300-900 psi.

I bled air out at the fuel cooler

when i first crank the truck it will build up to 900psi then drop off and stay steady at 3-500psi

It tires to fire, im getting white smoke out of the tail pipe

as a last ditch effort i loosened and bled the two lines that go into the heads. got some more air out

only code is low cranking pressure
then called it quits last night

ANY HELP? keep cranking till she fires?

I know when I change the fuel filters, I turn the key on, wait till the pump shuts off, then turn it off for a few seconds, then back on again. I do this 10 times before I start it. I just changed them over the weekend, and on the 7th time, I could still hear air in the tank being pushed back there from the pump. I'd just keep running the pump till the sound of air is gone, then try to start it again. Also make sure the batteries are fully charged.

There is a video on you tube showing how to bleed the air out of the system, I'm pretty sure the truck needs 5,000 PSI to start.

ive already bled coolant out of the fuel cooler where the bleed procedure is done.

Im pretty sure i waited a little too long and air locked it before i bled the cooler.

has anyone seen pressures like this before 300-900 psi?

300 to 900 psi is way short of the 5000 psi you need, for the engine fire. You need to install a fitting into the rearmost two of the fuel cooler hoses, with a clear hose attached and routed to the fuel tank as you're cranking the engine over. This bleeds the high side of the fuel system. This is to be done after you've already bled the air out of the low side, which is through the Schrader valve on the front line of the fuel cooler.

just as a curiosity questions since I will probally be replacing the fuel pump at some point....how did you pre-lube the fuel pump? do you pour fuel in the lines...oil, etc?

what about the engine mounted fuel fuel filter...do you pour fuel in it?
AND on my 2010 6.4 there is what looks like a tire aire fitting on my fuel cooler.....have you bled that?

was the primary chasis mounted filter changed??? is it a motorcraft filter??? is the bleed hole at the 12:00 position??

I rememeber helping a friend rebuild an engine and the re-assembly took a few months due to the friend's schedule. The onsite master mechanic told us to leave the injectors in individual coffee cans with fuel becuase once the injectors dries out the engine will never start.

hello everybody

to answer some questions.

Fuel bowl was filled before craning engine

both the FEED and RETURN have been bled on the fuel cooler

NEW FOMOCO filters in frame and in bowl

All 8 injectors were cleaned, serviced and tested with calibration oil.

Last night i removed the injectors for testing, will update shortly.

thank you

also,

IF YOU HAVE REBUILT A 6.4 and installed it please PM or CALL me, I have a few questions

thank you
