Is the NAPA 6637 conversion as easy as it seems

Im thinking of embarking on my first mod and I was thinking of starting out easy, with the air filter. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems you just pull the old air box, and put the new filter in its place. Are there any tips or tricks to getting the box out? Any wires connected to it?

Its pretty easy to do. The only wires are for the air intake temp sensor. Most guys, myself included, just leave the sensor lay on the inside of the fender well under the new filter. Go for it. You won't regret it!

The "hard" part, if you could call it that, is getting the old air box out. I recall breaking some of the fasteners for the stock air box getting them out, since they'd been in there for close to 20 years.

Yea removing that original air box has the potential to make the pope cuss!

I woulda been cussing if I had to put it back in. Knowing it was going to end up on a shelf in the basement made it easier.....

I'll preface this by saying I haven't researched the filter mod very much, but what are you guys doing to keep the 6637 conversion pulling cool air instead of hot air? Has anyone monitored AIT before and after the mod? Looking at it, it just seems like the air temp around that filter is going to be REALLY hot on a long drive in mid summer.

Agreed. It's been a few years ago, but someone did test the air temperature as a possibility of it being hot going into the filter. Sitting in traffic, it did get warm. But when going down the highway, if I remember correctly, the temperature difference was 10 degrees or less.

It is used to determine when the EBPV should engage.

Once moving the temperature reported by the IAT is the same as outside air temperature, I have monitored it.
