The real answer has already been said - to increase longevity. The lower rating stresses the internals less and may improve ultimate lifetime. Not everyone runs their pickup truck to 400k miles.

On the other hand, plenty of diesel pickups can last that long, so maybe its not important. Perhaps the lower output discourages the bad driving habits many people have in company vehicles. Perhaps it allows better fuel economy.

I think the current ratings are adequate, especially with the shorter gearing usually found in the C/C models.

Plain and simple, the longer reach of your friends at the EPA.

The 7.3 6.0 & 6.4's were same HP & Torque in C&C weren't they ?

Did Ford do this because they knew "Hired Help" would be jerking these commercial trucks around ?

Thoughts :

I solved the DETUNED cab & chassis problem

I ordered a Oxford White DRW XL 158" WB Pickup with Box Delete & 3.73 LS Axle.
I wanted the Wide track frt axle but HATE the BIG GAWDY FENDER FLARES LOL
XL appearance & power eqpt groups
Block Heater, upfitter switches, brk controller, alloy wheels, skid plates, H/D alt & all season tires (Quieter)

That should prove to be a nice truck. You can outfit it as you like.

Looks like a nice bed. Are you going to mount some tool boxes under it once you have it mounted?

Yes I'm thinkin about RKI 12 or 14" tall boxes.

I don't like 18" hanging down so far, like skirted beds.

I'm more about the looks I guess, lol

Any preference what brands keeps water out better ?

If you find a brand that is completely waterproof let me know. I have yet to see one that does not leak after it gets some age on it.

Here's my chassis cab with bed, boxes and tank. Boxes have never leaked. Not sure the pictures will show up , never tried to attach a picture to a post

Thanks we have really loved the truck. Yes it's the low horsepower engine, but have never wanted or need more. It pulls the fifth wheel easily, and I have really liked the flatbed. The truck only used for pulling the 5er otherwise it's in the garage.

I sure like my flatbed too. It took quite some time for me to get it all built, but it was worth it. I'm sure you'll love her when it's all done, anxious to see the completed job
