Transmission Temps--Bigger Cooler?

So after getting my new gauge installed last weekend, I have been able to trend my temps and see more of real world performance. Just running down the road, I see 160-165* consistently, but I have see as high as 185* going up a grade at 35 mph. I am wondering if my cooler is too small? It's only rated at 14,000 BTUs. The one I am looking at is the biggest I can find short of the 6.0 cooler. It's rated at 29,000 BTUs. Before I go taking out the small one and putting in the bigger one, will this even make that much of a difference? Does anyone have any experience with this? I am a little worried that towing is going to be a problem. The other bummer is that my Edge has been lying to me the whole time. It said 162 when my gauge was reading 185!!!!! Not cool... Now John did tell me that the PCM reads the temp from a different place than the probe for the gauge will, so the gauge will give a more honest reading. I just didn't think it would be a 25* difference. Anyone? Thanks.

It's got a B&M Supercooler I put on there when I first got the truck. Pep boys Maybe that's my problem? What are your temps on the average?

Do the 6.0 cooler and dont look back, I still got to get a trans temp gauge, but with this many miles im not to worried about it, it made it this far with a smaller fan cooled one.

I would but too much money and nowhere to fit it with my intercooler.

Usually 165 but never been over 185.
I would have liked a 6.0 cooler like the cool kids but honestly I wasn't 100% sure how it would fit. Now after doing what we did to Glenn's it fits but took some finagling and juggling.I'm not sure how the cx core compares and the placement can change it also.
The tru cool seems to have done exactly what I needed and was easily fitted.
I mounted it to the back of the bumper in front of the openings.

Hey Mike, I replaced the tiny stock cooler. This one is a little bigger, but not the biggest one.

I think I am going to do exactly this, but it does sound like your temps are like mine. John doesn't seem to think these temps are a problem. I am just used to hearing the old wives tale that anything above 160 is murder on an automatic transmission. I have mine mounted like yours as well A-Ron.

Who me?? haha Like Aaron said it was a challenge getting it in there but it will fit. It does a really good job towing, the best trans cooler I've had. On a hot day towing uphill I'll see 190° tops. Most of the time its in the 160°'s. I have the 32 row which is the bigger of the two 6.0's. You can run a good trans oil over 220° without problems, John is correct.

He will have pics but we mounted the ic and trans cooler at the same time with full flexibility . I'm not saying it won't work at all but all bets are off on what could need moved around.

I don't think I have any pictures of that install. When it was being installed at the thrashing I stood there like a idoit because I couldn't remember how I installed it on the mare. I can say that the flanges on the 6.0 were bent at a 90° and sheet metal screwed into the radiator up rights.

It worked out great with that sex machine of an ic no doubt

I for one was scratching my head to make it the best we could accomplish...
