Hi guys, I just bought a 1997 7.3 power stroke a few days ago and it's my first diesel. I'm having some problems with it though. First off it's a 97 7.3 with the ts 6 position chip, straight piped and cold air intake automatic with 150k miles. I've noticed that there is sometimes when I am driving and if I press the gas, I'll feel the truck go but the stop again and then jerk and accelerate again. (this is after I'm stopped at a light and then take off). It's hard to explain but it kind of acts like it dies when shifting into sedond and jerks. The original owner said it was a center support bearing but I don't believe that. I need help with this one.
What oldbird1965 said, or if your oil level is really low and braking/accelerating slosh the oil away from the low pressure oil pump pick up, starving the high pressure pump...
Also, go now, right now, to Ford or International Harvester, and get a CPS sensor. Not autozone or any other parts store. This sensor will fail at the worst of times and can give all sorts of weird symptoms too. Change it and keep the tools (socket, extension and ratchet) in your glove compartment. This may, or may not solve your issue.
If this does solve your issue than go buy another sensor (from Ford or IH) and put it in your glove box next to your tools.
If this does not solve your issue, put the removed sensor in your glove box next to your tools.
Buy a spare socket etc if needed. But leave it in your glovebox.

Reason: spelun
Thanks for the reply guys, so the the cps is new so I don't think that's the problem. I have no check engine light on and today it got worse. I have the ts chip set to stock and when I was at a stop light, I started driving once it turned green and it started going normal for about a second and then the Rpms dropped and I kept my foot on the gas and watched the Rpms shoot back up to 2k and then immediately drop again and this happened 3 times in a row until finally it caught on and started driving but shifted into second hard. I checked the trans fluid and it looked normal and didn't smell and it's running at about 120-140 degrees.
It has to be removed completly, even if its on stock setting. The reason being is that sometimes the chip gets loose and doesnt make good contact with the pcm, thus giving false readings and cutting off.

Sounds to me like the tin nut has come off the back of the IPR and the solenoid is sliding back every time you take off.
If you remove your chip, MAKE SURE you disconnect the NEG battery terminals (both) before you do.

Sorry for the late reply guys, I've been really busy. But i took out the chip and it's still happening but I noticed it's only when the truck reaches operating temperature, It's fine until then. I was stopped at a light and when I gassed it, again it started to move and then acted like it stalled but didn't, and then it finally kicked back in and took off. But this only happened once, like it doesn't happen at every stop light, it's completely random.
