2009 F-150 Back-Up Camera Wiring Help

After backing my F-150 into a concrete filled steel pipe, which was not visible in the mirrors, I decided I needed to install a back-up TV camera. I bought BOYO Model VTC424R kit to install. The installation of the rear camera was a breeze. There is an RF link between the rear camera and the cab monitor. The instruction glibly state, find the under dash electric connector and determine using the shift lever by shifting into reverse, which wire is for the back-up lights and wire the monitor to that wire.

So much easier said than done! I have no idea where even to begin looking to find said connector. Can some one point me to a wiring schematic of the F-150 truck so I can get some idea of what and where to look to find the correct connector. Maybe someone has done the installation and can tell me exactly where to look. Thanks.

Bill

Try checking the fuse box for the backup light fuse. If that is all the fuse powers, you may be able to locate the wire that way.

If the connection is at the camera then the reverse lamp or 7 pin trailer plug will work.
How does the monitor get its power and does the image come on when it picks up a signal from the camera?

There is no fuse for the backup lights in the fuse box.

The instruction tell you to wire the camera to the backup lights. (Which I have already done.) When there is power to then backup lights, there is power to the camera.

The camera transmit an RF signal to the monitor in the cab, which displays what the camera sees. The instruction are to wire the monitor to the connector which is live when the shift lever is in the Reverse position. The monitor is then only powered when the shift lever is in the reverse position. Not having any idea which or where the connector which has the Reverse wire would be located, installation of the monitor is currently on hold.

I don't see why you couldn't run constant power to the monitor.

Not being an electrical person, wouldn't that cause un-needed wear on the electronics of the device, having it powered all the time?

The constant triggering on and off causes more wear. Rear cameras on garbage trucks etc. are on all of the time.
