I just picked up a 2005 F150 1 owner King Ranch with 66000 miles on it.
The on board computer shows average mpg in the mid 14s. Previous owner said that with the 3.55 rear end he was getting 22.
I was thinking that maybe the spedo was not calibrated so I ran my Garmin yesterday and compared the speed and trip odometer with those in the truck and they were close enough to say that the spedo and odometer are accurate.
I hooked up my ODBII reader and monitored it on the way to work today and TORQUE Light registered an average mpg of 22.
What could be making them show that much difference?
I would say it all depends on your commute to work. My guess would be fairly flat and speeds around 50-60. I'm on the opposite end of that spectrum as I have 3.73 gears. I've seen mine indicate as high as 19 for a sustained distance if I'm running flatlands around 50-60. Mine takes a steep nosedive at speeds above 65. I would give it some time and distance but I'd be surprised if you even approach 22. I will say that I'm basing this on a guess that you have a 5.4 engine. If that's not correct then disregard my post.
