Powder Coated Cross-Bed Box

Looking for a new box for my new truck. The old one was plain finish aluminum and held up well, but looked sort of shabby toward the end. Does anyone have any experience with the black powder coated boxes? Does the finish hold up well over time? Can it take minor abuse like the ends of kayaks being pressed against it while traveling down the road? If the shiny black finish doesn't really hold up well enough to make it worth the price difference, I'll just go plain finish again. Any advice based on first-hand experience would be welcome.
