We'll have been having an issue with my high beams blinking and decided to get some parts. Bought a new foot switch and the wiring with the connector. Problem is I am not sure exactly how I can hook the wiring up as the stock connector has a few extra wires compared to the replacement and also the diameter of the new wires is quite small in comparison. 1977 F250 camper special and I have attached a few pics. So what should I do?
You want to find the correct part #s. With good numbers you can search the net and probably find an exact replacement if needed.
Blinking or intermittent lights means headlight circuit breaker is tripping. Poor grounds and corrosion in the connectors and cables causes this. Common problem as these trucks use the frame and radiator support as the return path. Spend a little time and clean things up and replace the cables the problem may well be remedied. Headlight Switches do wear out, floor switches see a lot of salt, Ford cheaped out on copper it is true.
I bet it is a bad headlight switch. Why did you get a new connector, is the old one bad, broken or melted? A new dimmer switch should be plug and play. X2 on ck the grounds and connections.
When this switch gets corroded (see pic in post #4), and you step on it for high beams, the headlights will go off and/or flicker.
Thanks for the info for sure! I have the new parts and yes that switch is pretty corroded. Maybe I won't replace the wiring and just slap the switch in.

What happens, all the corrosion and rust (or paint) means resistance, and that means heat, not just at a switch or connector, all through the headlight circuit and everywhere else. Dim headlights, weak fan motors, slow starters, defective alternators, weak ignition, etc.
Shiny connections = Happy Electrons
Get your voltmeter out and turn your headlights on. Start with the negative side. Put one probe on the negative battery post. Put the other on the negative blade of the headlight. Ideally the voltage should be Zero, but there will be some. The voltage displayed on the meter represents the voltage lost in the corrosion and wiring. The limit is 0.2 volts on the negative side.
