In search of an OBS

Hey guys I'm currently looking to buy my first diesel truck and I wanted to get some advice and possibly see if anyone had a truck for sale. I'm looking for a 1990-96 F-250 with a 7.3 L in it. I have done a lot of research on these trucks and they are exactly what I need, something that has potential for upgrade but is solid stock. Any suggestions on what to keep an eye out for that could wind up costing me more money in repairs than the truck itself cost? Thank guys.

You need to decide if you want an IDI or a Powerstroke first

I think you'd be happy with a Power Stroke.

Yeah I think I'd be happier with the power stroke as opposed to the IDI. What are somethings to look for when buying one?

Watch out for buying a truck off of a young kid.If it's got a tuner and a stack coming out of the bed and no sign of it ever pulling a trailer chances are it's been hot-rodded.

The IDIs are good if you want something simple and cheaper to work on,they have decent fuel economy and are pretty reliable if maintained. But I don't think there is anything as far as tuners for them.

Powerstroke would be good if you want to do any performance upgrades in the long run, they have all kinds of aftermarket for them.

That's more the range I was looking in. The 95's - 97's. I really like the body style

I'm up in NJ not too far of a drive. How much would you be looking to get for the truck?

If you are in NJ, you need to watch for rust. Obvious places like cab corners, rockers, wheel houses, etc. And the less obvious places like bed cross members, core support, etc. I personally would look outside the region to the south, west, or pacific northwest to find a good clean truck. Mine (although not a diesel) was from Las Vegas; I had it shipped to me in CT. As mentioned, kid's trucks are definitely something to stay away from.

I looked for the right 9th gen for a long time and there were a few things I noticed. A lot of them are whipped; understandably when the newest ones are 18 years old. Some look a lot better in pictures than they do in person. I've seen some of the "instagram famous" 9th gens in person, and they are absolute junk. High mileage, worn out, patched up, garbage. Totally molested, cheap add ons, etc, etc. If you want a good one, you have two options; get lucky, or pay up. Take your time and find a good one; you'll be much happier in the end.
