Hi all truck is.D.I.D. (dead in driveway) some help plz

As I said I am down for the count. I have a 95 f250 4wd xlt 7.5l with about 160 k on her.
It has been a good truck actually great truck. She is undergoing some revamping at the present time and she is not happy with my decision to fix her small problems and is fighting me all the way.
Let me point out this is not unusual for this truck. It groans and moans and objects to any and all changes to her appearance or performance.
So my problems with this is not unexpected but par for the course.
A little background due to a fender bender she was a body shop for over a year and then due to becoming diabetic and then going legally blind she has been sitting for a while better part of two years. So while I am home and can't go anywhere till I get my eyes fixed we are fixing things that have become problems over the rest period she has not enjoyed.
Truck is in good shape overall but due to her rest period is having some issues.
The latest was the front tank and not wanting to fill and not registering gas on the gauge.
Long storyshort new pump and tank soon to me installed. While I was working on this I decided that a new fuel filter would be a good idea, too much rust in the tank, so I proceeded to change it out. Like many before me it was not as easy as it should be, to say the least. After I learned the right cuss words the line to the front of the filter pop off like it was supposed to. Charged with the thrill of victory I proceeded to the beak fuel clip and well not so good. The filter came off but it left me a small present in the clip the end of the filter tang from the spine back is still there.
I can move the piece around so it's free but I cannot get it out of the clip we have the metal clip that uses the scissor type tool to remove the filter.
How in the world can I get that nipple out.
I have two thoughts on this
1) use a screw or bolt to screw into the nipple and try to release the end and potentially be able to pull it out. Without damaging the clip in the process.
2) possibly drill the nipple and then get it out without damaging the fitting. I'm not sure about this method at all. There is still fuel in those lines.
I would replace the lines but I don't think I have to and I am not 100% sure I can get them anymore.
Anyone out there had this problem? If so what did you do to get the end out of DA fuel clip?
I'm scratching my head and wondering how to fix my girls newest poser she has presented me with!!
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for any help.
Charlie

Welcome to FTE

Somebody more familiar with these will come along. From what I recall, depending on the year this is a Bad Thing(tm) that has happened. You'll hear stories like "the whole fuel line must be replaced", but I think there is some kind of a repair kit available now. Like I said, just going off of memory here.

I think your trouble started using the scissor type tool. I have never had good luck with that type of tool as I think they came out with those for the AC system with garter spring type connectors.
I think you need to get a better tool to release the part and use a spreading type pliers that will fit in the tube hole or an easy out or an 1/8" inside pipe wrench.

I agree aboput the tool, overall but it worked on all the other fittings in the system except this one!!!
At the time when I bought this tool over 10 yrs ago it was the best tool I could find.
I think the inside pipe wrench has some potential tho. Hadn't thought of that.

Been thinking tho if I can use something to grab the "spine" van I pull it past the clips without damaging the clip? Or more specifically the teeth that hold the filter in place. If the clip part is rounded I might be able to but not sure how it's made!?? Any ideas on that?
Thanks for the reply Subford!!!
I am still searching. This has to have happened before to someone.
I have some friends at local dealership and gonna give them a shout to see if they have dealt with this issue .

Not sure what you are asking here. The top photo above shows the tube for the filter and the retainer.

Thanks for reply. Maybe the thing if those tips are replaceable.
That would definitely work remove the teeth and pull out the stem replace the teeth and away we go!!!!
Just gotta find out if the teeth or retaining clip has that feature.
Wonder if anyone knows that answer? But I gotta be right before I do it cause the line is no longer available that much I have found out.
It's junk yard time.
Get an old one and see if I can remove them.
Like I said gotta be right the first time! But you are definitely set me on the right path if it workslll

Very close need to find out if I can remove the retainer ring as you call it. If so and I can get new rings.
Problem solved. Remove ring ,remove broken stem, replace ring, install new fitting.
But big kicker, can rings be replaced?
Gotta find that out. If so, where to get new rings?

Note it could be a 800-008 or 800-807.
You can buy the clip retainer at Amazon:
Amazon.com: Dorman 800-008 Retaining Clip Ford: Automotive Amazon.com: Dorman 800-008 Retaining Clip Ford: Automotive

Well thanks alot everyone who posted!!
I'll verify that this will work and go from there. I knew this had to be simpler than it first looked.
Hopefully it will be. Of course I am the king of one in a million. Every time I hear this hardly ever happens that's the first thing I check into!!!! Cause if it can happen it will to me. Mr Murphy must be family somehow.
Again thanks for the replies!!! I'll update when I have it fixed.
