96' F350 radiator tank and rad support

Afternoon all,

I have developed a coolant drip at the bottom of the radiator. I know, I know, clean it and look again. Its already clean, but the bottom plastic shield under the truck joining the radiator bottom and the under front bumper is dripping from several spots. Is the bottom radiator tank plastic? It looks like the top tank is. I am hoping its a leaking bottom hose, its just hard to see.

Next question, the radiator support. The sheetmetal part tying the whole front of the truck together is rotted out over the bushings that the rad support sits on top of the frame. How hard is this to replace? I see two choices for purchase. First OEM is like 800 bucks. Repro. is like 220. Anybody have any luck with a repro piece of metal?

Thanks and enjoy your Sunday.

Sid

No clue on quality of repop core supports. You should mention if you are diesel or gas, the supports are different for the two.

The tanks on the radiator are on the sides. Your pictures just show that the radiator is leaking, not from where. They're not too expensive, and might just need to be replaced anyways. It's an easy install too.

Since you have a 460 gas engine the radiator support is easy to get.

Aftermarket is fine, just make sure your thoroughly clean and paint it before install

Thanks guys,

Yes Diesel is correct. It is a 460 5spd. A couple other questions please. Can I use maybe an F250 or F150 from another year for the radiator support? What years would work? I'll check a salvage yard or two. Given I'm in North Carolina, maybe I can find a decent OEM. Also, will I need to remove both quarter panels to remove the radiator support?

Thanks again guys.

NO, diesel in NOT correct. You have a GAS.

92-97 F250HD/F350, + 92-96 F150/bronco is what you are looking for.
NO, no need to remove the Fenders in order to replace the radiator core support

Diesel Brad, that's funny. I was referring to the fact that YOU, "Diesel Brad" was correct. I know I have a gasoline engine. Sorry if I confused some.

Thanks for the quarter panel info Brad. The job seems a lot less intimidating now. What about the bushings that the support sits in? Where can I get those? Anything else I should be leery of getting into this job? Weekend job, two days do you think? What is a F250 HD?

Thank you guys.

Oh yeah. Got me a 1994 F150 in a salvage yard 20 minutes from the house. Going to look at it today. Anything other than rust or deformations I should look for? 75 bucks!

Thanks

Body panels and interior pieces mostly. Frame and suspension components won't match.

Morning all,

I picked up the 94 F150 radiator support yesterday. Other than it being red and dirty, its in really good shape with absolutely no rust. Have to love North Carolina.
The junkyard man did say he had to cut the support bolts that go through the rubber bushings that hold the support to the frame. Where can I get these pieces of hardware and new bushings? Other than OEM of course. Are these bushings hard to install and do I need any special tool to install the bushings?

Thank you

Sid

Energy Suspension sells a kit that looks like it includes the radiator support bushings.

I'd imagine that most parts stores sell the bushings too. You'll need the OE hardware though. The sleeves and washers are reused. Try to get the hardware from the new support you bought. Or, take your old hardware and try to rebuild it with new components.

The hardware was cut at the junkyard and my stuff is wasted. LMC only goes up to 3/4 ton and NPD has nothing. Any other ideas other than OEM? If not, how can I get OEM part #'s for the hardware?

Thanks all.

The hardware is the same for a 1/2 ton through 1 ton.

Truck Parts and Truck Accessories

LMC's catalog just says F-Series. Meaning all Ford trucks.

Hey Mrolling,

Man I am sorry to run you around with this hardware thing. I called LMC yesterday and they told me they only sell up to the 3/4 ton trucks and that the F350 is different being it is a 1 ton. I just do not want to buy something that's not right and then go through the hassle of returning and shipping and all that.
