1985 dually diesel kodiak?

Hello im looking for any information about a 1985 f350 "kodiak" trim package.

I have searched the internet and can not find any info, all I do know about the truck is that it is a 1985 diesel, crew cab, dually, 5 speed, and there seems to be multiple aftermarket but period gauges.

The truck has been abandoned for 8 years and i have finally tracked down the son inlaw of the very old owner so information from them isnt helpful.

the kodiak name appears on the key plates on both front doors and along the bottom of the doors. the truck has no bed so there is no help there but does have 2 non oem fuel tanks out side the frame behind the cab.

Any insight would be helpful, Im hoping to get the truck cheap enough and get it back on the road

Hey Subject47, welcome to FTE!

I'm not an expert in trucks of that vintage (I was born in '85 ), but I'll move it to the forum for those who are. I'm fairly certain that the "Kodiak" name indicates an aftermarket upfit, as I've never heard of that before.

Can you get any pictures? The only '85 Kodiak I am familiar with was a GM product.

Welcome to the forum..

No such thing as the terminology KODIAK in Ford. GM had a Kodiak truck. It replace the C40-C60 trucks

Also a 5 speed was not available until 87

As for the gauges... again NOT OEM.

The truck may be a homemade unit or some sort of aftermarket production unit like a centurion conversion

I am with the other on its a GM truck of the C40-C60 series
Now in 85 I don't know if they would of used their own 6,2 diesel or say Detroit Diesel.
I say this as I drove a late 70's or yearly 80's C60 drump truck and it had a DD in it a little 4 cly turbo.
It also had a 5+ 2 sp rear making it a 10 sp. Unlike todays big rigs were you run thru the low range gears then flip a switch and run thru high range gears this truck you had to split each gear. IE 1lo>1hi>2lo>2hi> that was the only way to drive it as the DD 4cly did not have the power to shift it any other way.

Well it is a ford. I'll try to get some pictures of the truck as soon as I can. I did find one pic online of a truck that appears to have the same labeling and its discription calls it a Kodiak conversion.

OK well my buddy was able to get some pics of the inside, and since it was locked when I looked at it I won't ask ant questions.

The truck was modified by auto form Corp in Bremen In. And at least the shift **** shows a 5 speed it also has a vacumm gauges along with other aftermarket gauges. Here are some pics

What actual transmission is in it? You'll have to get underneath to find out.

Vacuum gauge seems kinda pointless, as pumped vacuum would be pretty constant until you press the brake pedal. You're absolutely sure there's an IDI under the hood? Is it NA or turbocharged?

Pics will be very interesting.

OK got them uploaded the dash says diesel fuel only but that is the only real indication that it's a diesel of any type at this point.

On a side note autoform was contracted by gm in the mid 80s to do conversions of cameros into convertibles.

So the vin is showing it as the idi and it is a 86 not 85. It has a trans code of P. But who knows what autoform did to it.

Its in bad shape so I'm hopping to get it cheap and take my time doing a rebuild/restomod. But resto might be to strong of a word.

The VIN's 8th digit is a "1" which means it came from Ford with a 6.9 IDI diesel. The transmission shift pattern is nothing I recognize from Ford.

Edit: the aftermarket pyrometer indicates it most likely has an added turbo kit.

Well, it's a 1986 (11/85 build date). VIN code G means it's an IDI (see also the diesel-only lights, lower right dash). Those key plates are obviously just something picked up at a FLAPS. Shifter is entirely non-stock; the stock tranny would be a Borg T-19, and the shifter would have a different bend to it. And is it just my crooked vision, or is the clutch pedal missing?

That clock is actually somewhat sought-after in the '80-'86 community.

Truck has been rode hard and put away wet. The Busch Light box/cans are a nice touch.
