352,360,390 are all going to need the same transmission. Not much out there for them.

A 460 will use a 429 trans, a few more options out there.

If options are what you're looking for, a 302 is your best choice. Tons of options to do almost anything with them.

The 352/360/390 are FE series engines all same on outside, the 460 is a 385 series engine. The FEs use a round top bell and the 460 used a flat top bell with a 7.5in bolt spread.

That will be a 5 speed offering along shortly.

Call Modern Driveline. Spec it with the right parts and a Tremec TKO-500 or 600 will bolt on to an FE!!!

You might already know this, but Borg-Warner T-18 and T-19 four speeds were common transmission on FEs. You can get them at salvage yards and rebuilt here: The Novak Guide to the Borg-Warner T18 & T19 Transmissions

Novak rebuilds Borg-Warner T19 transmissions. http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/t...s/t18-package/

Salvage yards are also source. Here is a searchable database of salvage yard inventories. Just plug in your location and what you're looking for. Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

I'm pretty sure you want an OD high gear and the T18 and T19 are 1:1 whereas the Tremac comes in what ever ratios you want. A Gear Venders OD unit is also an option but rather expensive.

Borg warner

If you are thinking of the early style that Ford used before the top loader make sure to use the matching bell housing other wise the input shaft will not be long enough. Also make sure it is a wide ratio because close ratio transmissions are real dogs unless you have 4.11 gears. I have been there.

I swapped a T19 from an '85 F250 Diesel into my '68 behind the 360. It originally had an NP435, granny gear first and a huge spread between 3rd and 4th gears which really sucked when towing. The T19 I used has no granny gear, so it's a true 4-speed with synchros on all four gears, and I put a Gear Vendors O/D behind it. It was practically a bolt-in swap as far as the tranny itself.

Of the engine choices you list, I would probably go with the 460. I don't think you'll find much difference in fuel consumption between it and the FEs, as FE engines tend to really like their fuel. Plus, you can get a ZF5 transmission fairly easily that will bolt up to it, among other choices.

Is your '68 a 100 or a 250?

Did that work pretty well for you? I'm wanting to replace the C6 in my F-250 with a T19.

Overall, yes. I prefer manual to automatic anyway, and the T19 is much nicer to drive than the NP435 was. As far as the GV O/D goes, my old 360 is pretty tired and if I'm carrying any type of a load I have to keep my foot in it more to maintain speed when in O/D and don't really see any improvement in fuel consumption. For that matter, it seems about the same either in or out of O/D, loaded or empty. I don't think I've ever broken into the 13s on this truck, it's usually about 11-12 mpg.

Thanks!

To the OP, sorry for hijacking your thread. Might be good info for you too, though.
