2016 F-250,Dealer says no "B" plates,Only "D"
I have a friend that just bought a 2016 F-250 6.2 and the dealer refuses to give him B-Truck plates.Their telling him all the new superdutys because of the weight they only put "D" plates on them.My buddy doesn't want D plates cause he doesn't want to go through getting a safety sticker and the big renewal fees.
When I bought my 07 new I had no problem getting personalized plates and have run them to this day.
So is all this true? You can no longer run personalized plate or "B" plates on the newer superdutys?
BTW this is in Illinois.

Technically, the dealer is right here. The B Plate is rated for 8,000 lbs. This includes the truck, and it's load. Since a F250 is capable of bearing over that weight, it requires the D Plate. Which of course in IL, requires the safety certificate BS, not to mention his insurance will be a bit more costly since it'll be classified as a commercial vehicle. All of my Super Duties wore the D plates.
He could tell the dealer he refuses to take the truck with D plates? Worth a try maybe. Otherwise, reapply for new plates after 6 months.

State by state, but here in PA you can pick any weight so long as the truck weight + people is under it. If you have a 6600# truck and it seats 6 the standard figure is 150# per person. That brings you up to 7500# + fuel and now you can put less than 500# in bed. Here we could do that, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone. They are enforcing weights more and more around here.

I'm good buddy. I hope you're healed up well. Did you lose my number or something..? I got tired of being the only one calling!
What dealer is giving him a hard time with this? Also, I do have a friend at the DMV...
