Hi folks, I am looking into picking up a moats tuner for my truck and am wondering if anyone has done my swap and some tuning.
I have a 96 f150 reg cab short box. Originally equipped with a 5.0l and a 5speed manual.
I successfully completed a 5.8l swap.
The truck is also running a k&n intake, headers, and a dual exhaust with no catalytic converters. EGR delete.
It is lifted (6" SAS 35" tires, 4.56 gears and lockers)
It runs well, gets better mileage than stock (if I keep my foot out of it), murders tires and has made it through a Canadian winter without any starting issues or idle quality issues.
l am wondering how much more a guy can get out of the stock (ish) setup with careful tuning. I have future plans for upgrades like heads and intake, perhaps a mild cam but it is my daily so nothing outrageous . Or maybe I should just leave it alone? Lets hear your opinions and (preferably) comparable real world experience.

 

On this vintage motor tuning won't produce any more power than you can get for free by just advancing timing at the distributor, so it's not money well spent at this point. Once the motor gets to the point it needs bigger injectors then you should also get a tuner.
