Glow Plugs Coated In Oil

I have a 05 F250 6.0 purchased as non running recovered theft. Cranked but no start. I dropped it at the local Ford Dealer who they said had a 6.0 expert that drew in repairs from the Southern East Coast. 6 weeks later they said I needed a HPOP and IPR and would cost $2700 and I took the truck home and stripped it down to sandblast and paint the frame. I have gone through the HPOP system replacing STC connector, stand pipes, dummy plugs, ball tube seals and injector o rings. I have put air pressure to the HPO system along the way with not luck having it hold pressure and decided to remove the glow plugs to crank the engine to fill the HPO system before I check to see if it will hold air pressure. I removed the glow plugs tonight and each had a heavy coating of oil. Is this normal?
Side bar... I have not seen the smoking gun of HPO system yet in my replacement of all the parts!

The HPO system isn't really going to "hold" pressure. The air test is supposed to help you find where the air is escaping from. Pressure will drop quickly when the air is removed (or the oil pressure when the engine shuts down). Because of how the glowplugs go through the head/rocker box they will have oil on the most of the center section all the time and that will get on the tip before you can pull them out, so you're ok there.

Are you energizing the IPR during the air test? IPR screen look good?

Its rare for the later 4v piston pump to fail but it can happen. Possibly that was the issue.

The parts you replaced, STC, dummy plugs, standpipes are redesigned and better than the old ones you took out so no foul there either.

Some of those seals and the pump will leak a little with no oil on them. Have you tried to start the truck at this point or are you simply testing your work? Rusty is correct on the oil getting onto the glow plugs when removing them.

The motor is out of the truck so I am testing my work. I have one of those test air fittings that replaces the IPR. I am going to crank it over to get the oil pressure and then run the air test again.
Thanks for the replies.

Put a 400 lb pressure gage on the IPR adapter, cranked the motor and after a while the pressure built up and pegged the gage. It held pressure for a while so I assume everything with the HPOP is good.
