*New* Insurance Discussion
#31
The language for the "show car" insurance was very specific. So, I guess your trip was considered a club event. I get real nervous about having a verbal "go ahead" versus what's in writing.

I originally had my truck on my normal Allstate policy, with an agent I'd had for 20 years. He was interested in old trucks, too. I liked that Allstate had no restrictions on use at all, but was concerned they'd value the truck as some old junker if there was a theft or collision. He said "don't worry, if you can show it was worth $12k, that's what they'll pay". I said, can you put it in writing, or show me where it says that in the policy, he said "nope". I said "goodbye!"

My policy does not list my truck as a 'Show car', it is a 'Limited use antique/classic'. Perhaps your agent looked up the wrong plan. BTW, I consider Truckstock as a club event and the Insurance agent agreed.
Looks like a Club event to me...
My State Farm policy states "Vehicle Value $15,000." It's a 'Declared Value' policy.

I have to look up Chrome, Grundy's, State Farm...who else? Allstate? I'd actually like to look at each deeper. Sure, my truck is worth something but it's how well I'm protected in case of something nasty. People can't walk out their front door without some moron thinking of all kinds of dirty ways to take them for all their worth.

Just got off the phone with Hagerty, they wouldn't insure me. I have 3 classics
1. For California policies all the cars have to be kept in a locked building. I have one in the garage and the other 2 in the back yard.
2. I must have a 4th car as my daily driver, which I don't, and I don't drive daily...

Joe which of your vehicles is valued at $15,000?

Sounds pretty reasonable to me. Insurance is supposed to be a mutual agreement.
Make sure you read and understand what limits and restrictions of the policy is. There's a reason they can offer 200 dollar annual rates and $20,000 replacement policies. The daily driver thing, going to work in the rush hours, that's when statistically the accidents happen. If we drive them everyday, we're gonna get charged every day rates. No?
My 64 cost $11 a month for years, minimum state liability only of course. I've since kicked everything up quite a bit, maybe $20 or $25 now, to put liability and medical injury in line with prevailing rates. But no restrictions on when or where or any of that.
