Cross Country Family/Work Roadtrip

So, I just got it cleared today....As soon as the 11yr old gets out of school (May 27th), we will be hitting the road for the summer. As some of you know, I did A LOT of traveling last year with work and some was fun and some really sucked. The hardest part besides being away from family was the driving straight through from point A to point B to get where we needed to be and back home as quickly has possible. This year I figured I would plan out all our events in one big road trip so I could stay on the road with the family and I would just work remotely in between events.

I will use this thread to update our progress and pictures of all the shenanigans both personal and work....don't worry mods, I will keep the business logos and promo materials to an minimum in the pictures.

My question right now is, where are some must see places that you all have traveled to with family and friends? I am going to make sure this is also one big family vacation between each event that I have to be at. I know 2 stops I have events at are Laconia, NH and San Diego, Ca. So I will literally be going from one side of the country to the other.

One place you need to skip it the Roanoke star. Yes you can drive right up to it, but no it's not worth it. It might have been 100 years ago when we didn't have buildings made out of steel and 4 stories was the limit but now it's crap. However if you don't mind a day hike McAfees **** is AMAZING and well worth the time

You need to spend some time in Arizona and southern Utah and Colorado!

Northern AZ:
Grand Canyon
Petrified Forest
Sedona
Glen Canyon Dam Tour (if they still do it)
Monument Valley
Canyon de Chelly National Monument (out of the way, but amazing!)

Southern AZ:
Davis Monthan AFB Museum
Old Tuscon
Sonora Deset Museum
Mission San Xavier Del Bac
Tombstone
Kitt Peak Observatory

Utah:
Zions
Bryce Canyon
Cedar Breaks
Moab and Arches

Colorado:
Four Corners
Mesa Verde
Durango - Silverton Railroad trip

There are a ton more things that can be done! Salt Lake City is a nice and clean city to visit, with Park City nearby. There is also the Salt Flats, which if you time it right, you can see the ultimate in speed!

Well, enjoy the trip!

When heading east, go north on I-5 and then go over North Cascades Highway. It's something you should do at least once.

I am originally from SLC, UT and it is definitely a great place to visit with a lot of activities. Especially going to see the Olympic facilities.

Do you have a plan on going the north route home or on your way to SC, CA?

Well, enjoy the trip!
That durango is sure a fun town...so fun in fact I live there!!
Tube the river(it's cold). Alpine slide at purgatory. Drive over red mountain. Canyonlands and Moab are close. Pagosa hot springs. Peaches in palisades Colorado are the best. Enjoy your trip!!

Far on the list of work stops there are:

Laconia, NH / Myrtle Beach, SC / Virginia Beach, VA / Galveston, TX / Seattle, WA / San Diego, CA / Kansas City, KS / Memphis, TN / Sturgis, SD

Our schedule is no where near complete yet but you can see that I will already be all over the place.

How far out of San Diego can you venture or do you need to stay in city?

Are you looking for camping spots or are you hoteling it?

Do parts of Route 66 anywhere along the way. Meteor crater in New Mexico. Mt Rushmore. Grand Canon. The beaches in Cali. The Space Needle. That's just some of the things off the top of my head.

I have free range of my travels as long as I am at my events on time. I also have to hit up vape shops on my route and get them to buy products from me.

In San Diego if you are here during the summer definitely want a Beach spot or a mountain spot. They are hard to get without reserving 6 months in advance. There are some first come first serve places though. Check out Julian. Great little town known for apples and pies. If there during September you can pick your own apples. Palomar mountain has a campground by it's observatory. I haven't camped there yet as we just got our trailer last July. Agua Caliente is really nice with the hot springs but closes for summer as it's desert and a zillion degrees. Beaches you'll have to research. Coronado's Silver Strand Beach is a favorite of many campers. I have not been there myself yet. http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=654
