I have a 2014 2wd with about 30,000 on it. Went in for an oil change, tire balance at a dealer. Tech said diff. fluid was dark almost black and recommended a flush.
I have a hard time swallowing that pill. I have an open diff/2wd rig. There's no reason for the fluid to be dark unless there's something wrong. I don't hear any gear or bearing noise. I suppose, I'll have to investigate myself.
Anyone ever heard of a problem with the rear diff?
Not really sure about it but are these differentials limited slip with a clutch pack? If so could it be "slipping" and what the guy saw is worn clutch material in the oil? I don't know if this is even possible so don't rip me too bad. Also make sure the guy isn't trying to scam you and look at the oil yourself. Trust no one but yourself.
