Looked at a craigslist truck today and found a cracked block
Looked at this truck today:
95 ford f-250 7.3powestroke
And found that the block was cracked wide open just above the oil pan on the passenger side beside the starter. A wedge of cast iron spread out from the block at the bottom, only a few inches below the freeze plugs. Is this a normal failure?
As a side note, it also had so much blowby that even with the dipstick seated it looked like a coal train blowing smoke out the tube AND the fuel filter was solid black with oil.
With 244k on it, this engine is toast. Mine has 377k on it and it's as healthy as a horse. Maintain your truck!!
Thanks

What is it about craigslist that makes some ad posters incapable of keying complete sentences? It's not 1987; not like a newspaper ad where you pay by the word. In any event, if the poster's language is literal, and that it's leaking water and not coolant, that explains the crack. The darkened pavement under the truck doesn't show any sign of green. (Or maybe the street's just wet 'cuz it's Seattle....) If he ran straight water in the cooling system, it takes just one night
