78 F350 / 70 Highboy interchangeability
I have a 2wd 78 F350, 400 4spd. and a 4wd 70 F250, 360 4spd, divorced T/C, DRW.
I want to put the front axle from the 70 under the 78. The transfer case and rear end, I can deal with. Mostly wondering about frame widths in the front.
Also, both have power steering. Can I use the 78 box with the 70 axle?

I was just wondering if the frame widths are the same ('70 is 50 miles away in a snowbank). Thats really all I am concerned about as there has been discussions on frame widths between different years, 2wd/4wd etc.
Found some info elsewhere. Seems all were same width in the front. The rest is just torch and welder stuff.

I personally am in the middle of doing a 4wd swap on a 79 f250 CC. My donor truck was originally a 76 Highboy. It was fairly straightforward and consists of making templates for the holes needed. Everything so far has bolted in. Now steering is something different, but there are a ton of write ups on mounting the steering box. I will be using the factory 2wd box on mine.Btw this is all being done in a high school auto shop.
