Just when you thought it was safe to get back behind the wheel.

This shows up.
Ford Recalls Approximately 391K Ranger Pickup Trucks After 10th Takata Air Bag Related Death

10th Takata air bag-related death results in Ford Ranger recall
PR NEWSWIRE ON FEB 4, 2016
SOURCE: PRNEWSWIRE
The Lawsuit Settlement Funding Company reported that Ford has recalled almost 391,000 Ranger pickup trucks after the
10th Takata Air Bag death. The driver's side air bag inflators can cause injury or death, as incidents have shown that they
explode with too much force. The Ford recall covers trucks from model years 2004-2006 in the United States and Canada.
The recall came just several days after an announcement of the death of a South Carolina man in December, who died when
his 2006 Ranger hit a cow and a fence, and he "was struck in the neck by metal shrapnel." That death was the 10th known fatality
due to the inflators, with more than 100 people being injured by them.

So tell me this. How soon till the F-series are going to be affected?
I want to know if I have a Takata air bag or not.

So the recall is just for Ranger from 04-06? I think I read that article right?

The thing that really bothers me with this is they waited until 10. It doesn't cost that much to grab 10 vehicles in the public realm and test them.

I want to know who made the air-bags in my truck. If
it turns out to be Takata with more showing up as being
a danger it seems like every few weeks I want the damm
things replaced with a safe air-bag.

Takata had more or less killed any trust that people have with
them and there products. They could test 10,000 of them and
only have 1 show as defective but at this point like I said trust
is lost. I don't think that they will ever get it back.

They (Takata) made a metric crap-load of the air bags for everybody, not just Ford. There is some issue with humidity levels too, those in humid areas like Florida or Georgia are given priority for replacement over those in Arizona or New Mexico. The huge numbers of those affected means lots of delays.

Just wish I could turn the damn things off when I want.

You could sort of.
What I mean by sort of is just wire in the resistor that is used in the
simulator for airbag circuit testing. The trick would be getting it to fit
in somewhere so it would not dangle of hang up on something. BUT you
know in doing that you loose any protection from that airbag.

That is part of the reason I want to know if I have an airbag that is a danger
to the driver if it were to be initiated and toss metal shrapnel at me. From what
I understand about it is the shrapnel injuring the jugular vein and/or the
carotid artery

Well an ON/OFF switch would be handy. Guess they hadn't been invented yet when airbags came out.
