Just bought 2001 Excursion 180k $4000 What next?
I paid $4000 off the lot for a 2001 diesel 2wd- Any recommendations on specific parts or where to go in Houston would greatly be appreciated
Took it over to DI here in Houston and had Mike look at it. Diesel Innovations, Online performance shop. Duramax Cummins Powerstroke Mike gave me the buy recommendation as the engine is strong
The purpose of this beast is a Family - Best gas mileage and efficiency is what I am after - rock solid reliability and I will pay to get the best as I think of this car for the longterm.
this is what it needs.
a. upholstery seats front and back
b. paint job
c. shocks
d. $5500 in engine work to make it 100% mechanically ( I have a mechanic that will work for AMMO as I sell that for a living to lower the labor part of this cost.)
e. all the rubber for the doors ect.
f. interior led lights?
h. door ajar light won't go off
i. car locks dont work
Again thank you in advance for any advice or recommendation for where to go to get these things done at the best cost.

a. Seat Shop up in Dallas for your upholstery
b. Can't help you there...
c. Bilstein 5100s all the way (4wheelparts is a good place to go)
d. I do all my own work and save 1/3 of that $5500
e. These can still be found online at dealerships, etc for reasonable money. Front doors are same as F250/350
f. Many options here, and there are several threads in this forum that give you all the numbers for them and some sources to avoid.
g. ???? where the heck is g!!!
h. Check all your door switches/sensors. Could be as simple as a bad sensor in the door jamb.
i. Could be your master switch on the driver's door or your GEM (general electronics module). There is a way to self-test the GEM module if you have the right computer (I do).

Mike did not exactly write it down - but he hooked put he computer and did a complete test. took it for a spin and posed open the hood - I am not a mechanic and well I know that he represents a business and $5500 and that the engine was strong was what I needed to know to go buy it -
Tuner - bully dog?
4 leaks -
glow plugs..
They can complete all repairs in a single day.
I believe he is honest and they do good work if one wants to go that route.
Is there a mechanic here in Houston that wants to fix her for AMMO AT COST FOR LIFE?

Welcome to the world of XXXs
You've got 1/2 dozen of our strongest members down in Houston with you. Bunch of oil burners South. Please add the big H to your profile for future reference.
H: More time than not is the back hatch. Close it like you mean it & it should go out. All the interior lights are not on as well ??

Well, if he told you it was a good buy, the $5500 doesn't make sense unless their labor costs are inflated quite a bit. DI has a good rep for the most part.
As far as the AMMO goes, I was a helicopter mechanic If I was closer I would help you out on the suggested repairs in a heartbeat for nothing at all.

Congrats on the new to you truck!
For a second there, I thought you had a 6.0 since you mentioned $5500 in repairs.
If you'd like a second opinion, make the drive to Spring and we'll talk. I have the tools, know how, and two awesome running trucks that say I've been at this for too long, lol

I second the getting a second opinion.
I am not saying it doesn't need work done or the guy who winged you a price is wrong. Just saying for a unmaintained truck a casual inspection followed by a less then casual quote on the cost is not likely to be very accurate, and the error is not typically in your favor.
