Long bed 40gal rail tank fit a short bed truck?

found a 2003 6.0 long bed truck that has a 40 gallon tank in it. Will that tank fit my short bed truck? Has the sending unit and everything included, should be plug and play... if it fits?

Thanks!

Randy

Well, I guess I can use the guts from it then on a 33 gallon 08' tank from a short bed 6.4.....

That tank should fit.

That I do not know. I would measure the distance between the strap locations.

one of these tanks is going into the truck. Picked them up cheap, figured I'd save a $1200 bill!

Picked up the 40 gallon tank today.... $60 including the sending unit.
This is a picture of two tanks, one from a 2008 F250 short bed and the other a 2003 F350 long bed.

Now here's the thing, the strap locations are the same distance apart. The long bed tank is deeper and the fill and vent tubes are on the opposite side of what my 29 gallon tank has. The 2008 tank, after some measuring, will slide right in. Harpoon the thing and be done.

But now that the straps are the same location on both tanks, I'm wondering now, can I add a little longer fill hose, cut the metal fill tube back so the angle isn't so sharp, lengthen the strap a little or use a strap from a long bed truck and slide this baby in.

I tried to get the 40 gallon tank to fit in my CCSB and no Bueno. The high area of the 40 gallon long bed hits the floor pan of truck. I tried and tried only to reinstall my stock 5 gallon tank it came with. Ok 28 gallon it's still tiny.

I regularly put 32.5gal into my "28 gallon" tank, the harpoon mod is worthwhile if you have need to access the tank.
