New to 6.0's...scan-tool code questions on unexpected engine shut-down
Have an '05 6.0 Excursion, purchased it this past summer w/ 196k miles on it.
It's recently developed a problem that reminds me of the CPS sensor problems that I had on my 7.3PSD trucks ('95 E350, 2003 F350 crew dually) - sudden shut off, usually associated with throttle input. I never traveled far from home in a 7.3 without a spare CPS, a 10mm wrench and a big bar to release the serp belt tension. I was OK with that drill.
This '05 will immediately shut down (no cough, no wheeze) as I roll in throttle quickly when it's cold, or just warming, and won't restart. Shut everything off...wait 10-15 minutes, and it'll probably re-start.
Not setting a CEL. No other warning lights illuminated.
Snap-On scan tool only shows "P2291 - Injector Control Pressure (ICP) Too Low - Engine Cranking" Guessing that this is why is won't restart immediately. Is this the infamous high pressure fuel pump issue ?
Scan tool also shows a message that the fuel pump (assuming it's the low pressure pump from the tank) is running at "100% duty cycle" at idle, or just off idle.
At idle, shouldn't that be a whole lot LOWER duty cycle ? To me, from my "other complex engineering systems" world, that number should be 10%-20%-30%, but certainly not 100%.
Truck is in great shape otherwise. Previous owner was friend who owned 100+ vehicle trucking company, and the '05 was regularly, carefully maintained.
Any guidance from you guys ?
