plastic clips in door drain holes

My 2015 F350 crew cab has plastic clips at the bottom of the doors where the drain holes are. Should I remove these or leave them. water comes through but I started thinking maybe they are supposed to be removed?

I left mine in, I think they are there to keep debris from getting stuck in the drain.
