2000 Excursion 7.3 liter, cold start choke keeps coming on

Hello, I bought a 2000 excursion with the 7.3 liter from georgia back in the spring. The cold start choke comes on even after it's been plugged in all night and the block heater is working. It will also kick on once you get going down the road at 50mph. I have a 2002 F350 with same motor in same climate and it's acting fine. Can anyone help me here? I don't mind the high idle but the choke makes the truck sound like a jet dryer at the track and kills the power...

Your ebpv( exhaust back pressure valve) is getting stuck, you can unplug to disable the valve from opening. The plug is in front of the turbo unplug it. Or you can alway delete it.

You are dealing with the EBPV. So many threads on this at this time of year. Search this site for EBPV and you'll think you were in the land of OZ. Just can't rattle off enough info for you.

If ambient air temp is below 45*F and EOT is below 167*F then it is likely to be performing perfectly and doing exactly what it was meant to do.

Check out the link in post 11 in the thread below:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...pv-issues.html -great answer by F250 .

As stated above, if it is too annoying, you can unplug it. Doing this will not cause any major harm but will set a soft code in the PCM and will cause the engine to run at less than optimal temps for longer.
