I have a 2011 ecoboost with 69000 miles and I am starting to get the dreaded P0016 code along with the occasional P0299. I am almost done making payments on it but I am hesitant about sinking the kind of money that it takes to repair the timing issues. SO the big question, is it worth keeping and making the repair or should I trade it and get a new 2016??
It happens about every other day, no CEL yet, I usually know because if it going into limp mode. Then I scan it and it shows a pending code, usually just the P0016. I just turn the truck off and restart it and it goes away. Thanks for the help.
If you decide to bring these codes to the attention of your dealer, let me know. I'll be able to look into ways to assist once they've diagnosed.
Crystal
Crystal, I dropped it off at the dealer tonight, they didnt seem to enthused when I tried to tell them the problem. The CEL light was on so they will have to go from here. The service guy didn't sound to confident that any of this work would be covered by the emissions warranty. I should know tomorrow what they find out.

Mark
Thanks for the update, Mark. If you'd like me to push this up the line to your regional customer service manager, just send over a PM with your details. I'll need your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership.
Well, I got the quote to fix it, $2,200. I'm getting it fixed. Couldn't find anything that I wanted to trade for so I'll fix it and drive it some more. It's this first thing I've had to get fixed since i've owned it so I can't complain too much.

Timing chain, tensioner, gaskets, etc... I didnt write down everything he said.
Let Crystal work her magic here.
Timing chains are not uncommon and should be covered under the emissions warranty.
Several threads on this on most Ford truck sites.
You can search Timing chain stretch or start up rattle.

Sure you can! Go ballistic, mount a national campaign or class action suit because a machine with thousands of parts and pieces assembled by humans had something fail.
Great!! Hoping you get some 'assistance' but even without, that's @ 3cents/mile.
Not too bad.
