Help on ident on a 59 F100? or 250?
Hello all,
Just have a chance to swap a bike I have for sale for a 59 Ford ( 250 )
at least what the owner says it is, HE had sent me pics, and it has 5 lugs, I always thought all older even newer 250's had 8 lugs?
HE also sent me the tag off door stating it is a 250, ( maybe a door swap? )
But the tag verified it being a 250
See below
Any help will be greatly appreciated here as I dont want to get stuck with a major issue truck, and been looking since my retirement from the Force..
Thanks to all in advanced

First 3 digits of the VIN is the series code. F10 = F100 / F25 = F250.
The engine size is the 4th digit of the VIN, the year is the 5th digit of the VIN
All 1953/83 F100's have 5 lug wheels, all 1953/98 F250's have 8 lug wheels.
The problem is, when the Rating Plate is located on the door, the door could have been swapped since 1957/60 doors are all the same.
Look on the Registration/Title for the true VIN .. Compare to hidden frame VIN
cannot post pics, send it here: sylhall@aol.com

My '57 has a tag on the door rear pillar, a foot or so below the striker plate but any 1958 to 1960 I've had, the tag was inside the glove box. Same for my '62. Axle swaps are relatively easy so one can convert an F100 to an F250 and vice versa & many you don't have to change the axle at all. There's a guy in my town who has a 1968 shortbed F250 which was never a production model. Also in those years and up til 1972, the emblem was on the hood and hood swaps are common. I've seen several F100s with F250, F350 and even F600 hood badges on them. On all of the 57-60s I've had, the VIN # was stamped on the right side frame near the firewall and fairly easy to read using a piece of chalk.
Don't get stuck with something with a wrong title as this does sound kind of fishy.
