lost power and check engine light when putting pedal down?

I went for a drive in my new truck and hadn't put the pedal down until now. its really cold here (5f, or -15c). Anyways so i waited for the engine to get warm and then i put my foot down until i got to about 100km (60 mph). Everything was fine, I was on a gravel road so i turned around and did it again, this time i totally lost power once i hit around 60kmh. the check engine light flashed a few times, i tried again, same thing, this time the check engine light came on and stayed on. I eased off the gas a bit, then came to a full stop a little ways down the road. I tried again and this time i had full power, though i didn't take it to 100kms because there were icy patches all over the road and the truck went a little sidways. The check engine light was off, and i tried one more time after that and got up to 100 and everything was fine and the check engine light never came back.

I'm worried, my first real truck here, what happened??

Also when i stopped the truck i had a listen to the engine, everything seemed normal, but i've noticed before there seems to be a clacking sound almost, not sure if this is normal with a 5.4? i had a 2.2 litre sonoma before this so i'm new to all this.

thanks in advance.

i took a video of the sound I'm talking about. Maybe it's just the way the engine sounds I don't know. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18UD...ature=youtu.be

The check engine light coming on is related to a CODE that tells you the problem. Since the light went back out, you may or may not be able to read the problem with a code reader. In the states you can go to Auto Zone and they will connecte a meter and read the code for you...... You may have to find someone with an advance reader since your code is not constant.
Noise don't sound good, but I don't hear good enough to pinpoint a cause. Cam Phaser wear is one problem with the 2005-2007 era trucks with the 5.4 motor. You may look for other posts on that, or lookup on youtube.

Sounds a little like a clogged exhaust, usually a bad catalytic converter. As for the 'tick', it doesn't sound too bad. Are you sure the right oil and filter are being used?

Flashing cel and reduced power point to something life threatening for the motor. Get the codes read. I would suggest going real easy on it until you find the problem.

a little update. tried the truck today agian, passed a guy on the highway and put the pedal down all the way. no problems, clean pass, lots of power.
tried again when i left town, no problems at all. now that i know it's okay for now, i'll take it easy like i always do and wait till my dad finds his code reader. he's in the process of moving and so things are a little hectic there. Also had him listen to the engine (he used to be a mechanic back in his younger years) and he says a lot of fords sound that way. it sounds worse on the video because of the way the phone picked up the sound. said he wouldn't worry about it and just have a listen to a ford next time you see one running in a parking lot or something.

Can anyone help me out with a code reader that would have the memory ability? So i can find a code even though the check engine light is now off? I found a few good ones on amazon.ca but I'm not sure which to get

I just bought this thing, so I'm not sure what he put in there. Was thinking about waiting until march or april to get an oil/filter change. Winter here right now, might as well wait it out
