2001 F150 oil pressure & oil light.

Looking for advice please. Took our truck in to get an oil change yesterday and then drove home (about 40 miles). No problems. Went out and started it today and the oil light is on and the pressure gage didn't move at all while the truck was running for about a minute. Checked the oil and its about at the half way mark on the dipstick. Called the oil change place and they want me to bring it back saying its probably a relay or (cant really remember what he said). Worried about driving it that far and also don't really trust the place now. Had the oil changed 3000 miles ago on my 2010 Town and County (just over 40,000 miles on the van) as well as the power steering fluid getting their recommended change. Went back in last week for another oil change, and they tried to sell me the same thing again then blew it off when I told them they had just done it. Any advice? Drive it back to them, don't drive it at all, take it somewhere else??? Thanks! PS motor is 4.6 V8

when you indicated the half way mark does that mean half a quart low, or half way on the dipstick? I am
wondering if they failed to put back the proper amount of oil, or is there a new oil leak. also are there any new puddles of oil under the truck?

1/2 quart low, they said they were putting 6 quarts in. I don't see any oil on the ground under the truck where its been parked.

ok good so far. towing the truck back to that shop so they can see what happened would be good. let them see what's going on here. maybe they will cover the cost of the tow?
did you notice if the oil gauge dropped on the way home?

The oil gauge is not really a variable gauge. There is a pressure sensor that closes at something like 8 psi and sends a signal to the gauge. The gauge jumps to mid range to show the pressure. You don't know if you have 8 psi , 15 psi or 25 psi.. the gauge reads half scale.......... like wise if you have 7 psi , or the pressure sensor has failed, then you have ZERO on the gauge........... I have replaced a couple pressure sensors on FORD trucks in the past. They do fail.

If your oil change place is a mechanic shop, they might be able to check and trouble shoot..... If its a jiffy lube type place with a couple teenage kids working there, I might reconsider that.

Honestly I didn't pay any attention to the oil gauge on the way home. I know the light wasn't on though. The place is about 40 miles away, doubt they will pay for the tow and even when they said for me to bring it in and I questioned if I should be driving it he just said how far is it, I told him and he said bring it in. The place is a jiffy lube type place...penzoil quick lube....not teenagers but most of them are probably pretty dang close. Guess I will just need to take it somewhere closer. Thanks to both of you for helping.

You probably simply need a new pressure sending switch. Pretty common failure, it's just a coincidence that the thing failed right after the oil change.

If the engine runs normally with no odd noises, there's nothing wrong with the oil pressure in the engine.
