I give...I need guidance.

Long time follower...first time post. Last August I purchased a new to me 1997 F350 CC LB 2WD. It has 222,000. Love the truck. It's the one I wanted in high school, it just took 18 years to buy one. At lease it paid for!

My problem:

1. When trying the key I get the CEL and the IDM replay buzzes.
2. I hit the throttle when driving there is no throttle response. This causes the engine light to come on overdrive light to flash.
3. I've had it die at a stop light and it won't start. The CEL will be on and the IDM will buzz.
4. I had a no crank when trying to start

What I've done:

1. Changed the UVCH and plugs. I had two plugs burnt. Upon inspecting the wiring underneath the VC, the insulation on some wires were cracked. I also changed the glow plugs and injectors to fix another problem since I had everything off.

2. I've changed the CPS - with a International part. This was changed before the no crank issue.

3. Checked the starter, which was good. Have a spare fender solenoid just in case.

Just got it all back together and I still have the CEL, relay buzzing issue and dead throttle problem. But it did start.

The issue has increased in frequency since it stated. I had hoped my issue had to deal with the UVCH. But it hasn't fixed it.

Original owner installed Banks inter cooler, chip, trans command.

Thanks

Is it the IDM relay buzzing, or the PCM relay?

Glad I finally signed up.

I'll check again, but unless I'm looking at a wrong diagram, it's the IDM relay. I failed to mention that I tired a new relay but it didn't help.

Do you know anyone else who has an OBS PSD that you can put your IDM in and see if it does the same thing in another truck?

Thanks! Found a great truck that someone took care of. Couldn't justify a new one at 60,000.

Yes, my dad and brother each have one but they can't have there truck down. My try it as a last resort.

I don't know if it coincidence or not but I did tap the fuse box and it stopped buzzing today. But in the past, I've "beat" on it too and it didn't help.

Swap the relay with the horn relay. If you want to test your IDM in another truck, just pull the big plug off of the one in the other truck and plug it into yours. You don't have to remove the IDM from the other truck, so it won't be down more than a few minutes.

Welcome!!!

If the throttle does not rev and the cel comes on I believe I would look at the idle validation switch on the fuel pedal assembly. If the tps raises but no Ivs then I think it sets the cel.
It should click when just moving pedal very little.

To be clear are you saying the idle validation switch should click? I know I hear clicking but I can't say for sure it clicks when the problem arises. I'll look into this.

What are thoughts of the IDM relay buzzing and throttle issue are connected or separate. All going back to the IDM?

Rebilld, I'll try the swap and plug into the the other truck. It doesn't happen all the time, but as I said the issue has increased in frequency.

Yes though you may have to be under the dash to hear it. Check voltage drop across it when running. It may have lots of drop across it.
There also is some tweaking that can be done to the pedal. Look in the stickies at the top of the page.

Talyn, I did replace the ICP sensor a while back with a international part. Unplug the sensor while running or before starting? Are you saying that the ICP sensor could be bad creating the undesired engine oil pressure therefore no throttle?

Ford man. I'll check out the stickies.
