1951 F-5 Marmon-Herrington
Started a new project this month with a 1951 F-5 with a Marmon-Herrington conversion. The M-H system is new to me, but Chuck Mantiglia has been great answering questions and providing some manuals. Ford build the truck with a 239V-8, a 4 spd on a 134" wb. It was painted orange from the factory. Marmon-Herrington added the R5-4 conversion and a Cotta transmission, Model RS was also added, not sure when.
This truck was used at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, and had the door seals to confirm that fact. Have not determine how it was used there, but the was an engine of some sort on the rear, maybe a snow blower. Tags on the dash indicated the next service was due 7/78. Plan to restore it and put a 9' Ford script flatbed on the rear.

Welcome to the board!!
I really have to hand it to you guys who restore the big trucks, especially the MH's.
I'm glad you got hooked up with Chuck's Trucks. The mans a genius with those old big trucks.
Once you get settled in I hope you figure out how to post some pics. I can't wait to see your truck

Here is how to post pic's on FTE

Here is one way by "Axracer"
Do you have digital pix of your truck from digital camera or phone on your computer?
If so it is easy to add them to a post (assuming the file is not too large). Find the
pic on your computer and leave it open while you come here in another window. Compose
a post, click where you want the pic to appear in the post. Click on the picture icon
at the top of the posting box (looks like a postcard with mountains and sun) A dialog
box will open asking if you want to drag a pic onto the box or browse your computer to
find it. If you have the pic open, go there, right click anywhere on the pic and chose
copy from the menu. Come back to your post and right click on the box. Select paste from
the menu. Your picture should appear (it may take a few seconds to load) in the box. Now
left click on the insert button.
If the stars all aligned your picture should now be in your post window. Select post to
have it appear on the forum or repeat to add more pix. Some cameras make huge files these
days that are larger than the forum limits. You may need to resize or resample the picture
and save the smaller file version with whatever picture editing software came with your
picture taking device before you can post it.
If you are a supporter than just right click on an image from anywhere like Facebook
or whatever. Than left click in your post and paste it in. So simple even a monkey
could do it.
Oh! and welcome to FTE and the old truck madness.

1951 F-5 M-H
Hey Stu, I was hoping you would catch my post, and thanks for uploading the photo. I'm having more trouble figuring out how to use this site, than I am learning about my new truck. I think your in So Cal, maybe you could come over to San Dimas someday, to offer some input. JW

And I'd be happy to make a trip to San Dimas to see your truck. But I know next to nothing about M-H's so I would be of little use to you...

As I said, I would like to see your truck, and I'd be glad to offer any advice about your F5, being somewhat different from my F4 which is also NOT a M-H conversion. And you already know that Chuck Mantiglia is your best resource for information and parts.
One thing I can tell you right up front is you're going to love being able to work under the truck without lifting it.
