Successful 6r140 repairs and 2011 vs. 2012 versions

Purchased a well used 2011 F-250 (6.2L 4x4) that has some 6R140 transmission issues. What success have you had repairing the 6R140, especially by replacing the valve body (which I'd be up to doing myself)? If it goes deeper than a valve body, it seems cheaper to just put in another low-mile transmission. Also, used 2012-14 transmissions are a lot more common and appear to be a revision of the same transmission (BC3Z-7000-C vs. -7000-K). Can anyone tell me what changed and whether I can use a 2012 or newer unit? Is there some minor change I can make or if it's something like solenoid strategy can a dealer reprogram my truck with the 2012 transmission info? Thank you very much!

I don't know about replacing the entire valve body, but from what I have read, changing out the bad solenoid and updating the programming fixes most issues. On both gas and diesels.

How is the defective solenoid identified?
Is it where the shift problem is and swap that solenoid?

This makes it look like there are 4 solenoids: TCC, 1-2-3-4, 2-6 or 1-R
But looking at the valve body, there are 7 solenoids in there.......

Can I ask how the transmission was acting that leads you to believe that there are issues?

Hi Jeremy,
I think you're asking me your question so: I've only had the truck for 2 weeks. With that said, it is a 2011 with a 6/10 build date.
The issue I am having is during a slow to moderate take off, 1st to 2nd is fine, 2nd goes high rpms with slow acceleration them a good bump is felt going to 3rd. after that everything is good.
No issues coming down in speed to a stop.
No issues at a stop.
No delay going into reverse.

From what I've read, the usual repair is the 3 normally high solenoids and a reprogram or flash for firmware.
I'd hate swap out $140 worth of solenoids if a single $35 solenoid will do the job.

You might need to replace a solenoid or 2 but it also sounds like the clutches are slipping due to low pressure. You're gonna have burned clutches in addition to solenoid replacement issues. You also might consider replacing the other solenoids too since they could go out at anytime also causing the same problem again. I'd replace them all, rebuild the whole thing, and sleep soundly at night.

PS: this thread is over a year old.
