86 F150 EFI 302 -How to Adjust TPS

OK, so I checked my TPS voltage and it was .875volts. Took off the throttle body to adjust it. Got it at 1.004 volts, but I closed the throttle all the way before I did this adjustment. Then when I put it back on the truck, I had to turn the screw stop a couple of turns from closed to a little more open to get it to startup from cold right. Truck is running pretty good after this adjustment, but I don't think I did it quite right. I'm thinking it might be too rich. So, after messing with the throttle stop screw, does anyone know the correct setting for the throttle stop screw, like how many turns open? And then do I adjust my TPS for the 1.0 volt or .99volt?

.99 and 1.007 are both close enough. But you shouldn't adjust the idle - never turn that screw. Now that you have, unplug the IAC solenoid and set the screw so the engine ALMOST idles, but dies within ~1 sec. This is the time to set the TPS voltage to ~1V. Then test your IAC and if it's bad, replace it - that's what controls the idle. The Haynes manual tells how to test the IAC.

OK, thanks Steve. I thought that may be the way to do it. IAC is new and seems to work ok. Have unplugged it and set the idle screw down to were it almost dies. But when starting up with it plugged in doesn't seem to idle right.
I'm going to put a new high pressure fuel pump in 'cause I think this might be part of the problem. When starting up cold, turns over and catches right away, but then almost dies for a moment and then goes to it's high idle and then idles down after a minute just fine. When starting hot, almost the same thing, except no high idle. When I turn the key on and then turn it off, and turn it on again to cycle the fuel pump 2 times, I'm not having this problem.
I don't know how old the fuel pump is and am going to replace it just to make sure I don't get stuck anywhere. I carry an extra starter (AOD TRANS) , ignition module and wouldn't mind having the used fuel pump as backup. Then I will reset the Throttle stop screw and redo the TPS. If that doesn't do it, I'll go to the Pressure Regulator and start testing. Truck runs good (302) and always starts right up but have had to turn the throttle stop screw in (for starting up cold), making the high idle too fast to get it to start right when hot.
Got any other suggestions. (I know...Vaccum...fuel pressure checks. I don't have the gauges at the moment.) Well you must have been on vacation. Just got back myself from road trip ...So. Calif.-Nevada- Oregon-Washington. No problem with truck. The hotter it got, the better it ran! Only thing I did was back the timing down to 10 BTDC.. was too far advanced. I'm happy to say there are more old Ford trucks out there on the road than Chevys.

Don't buy a pump until you've put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail. A gauge costs a LOT less than a pump, and it can be reused.

Your truck's computer may have adapted to the old bad parts, so clear its memory by unhooking the battery for ~5min, then IMMEDIATELY drive thru town & on the highway for at least 10mi to make it relearn the new parts. Read this thread and pull the codes. You might have a bad ECT or ACT.
