stock 302 exhaust

I have a header thread "302 Headers" which has just about run it's course. Temporarily thwarted on the headers I switched to stock mustang exhaust. They had clearance issues at the firewall and the stock steering box.It was suggested that my best chance of firewall and stock steering box clearance would be with bronco or truck STOCK exhaust manifolds. Then I was told locally that Broncos had GT40P heads that would cause fitment issues at the manifold/ spark plug area. Can you think of any specific years, or models I should look into? Thanks

I used 1970 Bronco manifold's on my old 40 Ford pick-up with a 289 and steering box change up. That was 25 yrs ago, and there wasn't much available then. I had worked at a muffler shop then, and ran a nice dual setup, with H pipe and Walker Royal Scott muffler's. I had 24'' Boom Tubes running out the back, and she sounded real sweet. My 56 has patriot shorty's, and will run an h pipe with dumps in front of the rear tire's. I will run muffler's that run the inlet and outlet on the same end. That way I can mount the muffler's behind the cab, to get away the the resonate noise. I have a 22gal fuel tank, and can't run the tailpipe's out the rear. Good Luck.

Bronco's would not have GT40P heads. Those were only on the last few years of 5.0 production in Explorers. Exhaust manifolds for P heads won't work on any other Windsor-style head, but everything else is fair game.

That's what I have heard at one time or another and then I have heard the opposite. I bought a passenger side exhaust from Oreill'ys for a '90 Crown Vic...DORMAN brand. It bolted up well and had clearance where I needed at the outlet. Had all kinds of interference with the spark plugs??????? I have been trying to utilize local parts places for ease of returns and no shipping costs.

I used the stock manifolds from 76 mustang II 302 and they fit fine. Not the best looking or performing, but it was the simplest fix at the time. I always planned to upgrade to headers at some point, but that was 22 years ago now and still never got to the top of my priority list.

I took these off my 68 302 when I installed block huggers. If you think they would help you can have them. PM me if you think they would work and we can figure something out for shipping.

Incidentally, those manifolds that Jim has are off of a '63-'65 Falcon/Comet with a 289 - in case that becomes important later. The forward angle of the left one is a dead giveaway.

Since I'm not allowed to give Jimmy props in the form of reps (I have to spread the love first) I'll just say "Thanks for helping another member" in this post.
