Rear gear swapping with limited slip.

Ok so I was going to just swap the whole rear end from drum to disk but it looked to be too much if a pain in the ***. So the rear I have has 278,000 miles in it and its starting to make noise we were thinking about swapping the gear from the disk to the drum because the disk rear has 140,000 miles on it. Both have a limited slip. And 3.55 gears but i was thinking about getting 3.73
So my question is can I swap in 3.73 gears into a rear end with the limited slip from one with 3.55 gears? Or do I need to buy a different limited slip?

the gears will change OK.........I would take your original axle, buy new bearings and reassemble it...... put the 3.73 gears in it if you wish. What do you think is an advantage inside the disk rear ?

Well I drive a hour to pull the rear end and didn't know it was disk. And I thought a swap would be easy but it looked like it wasn't worth it. Both rear ends have the same internals. But I want the 3.73 because I use the truck to haul stuff and the gears would help.

I would sell the disc unit, use the money to buy NEW BEARINGS and the gear set if required and rebuild your OLD unit...... Pounding the bearings out of a 140K unit and reusing them in a daily driver is not the best plan.

Well the current ring and opinion have 278k on them. And theres alot of metal on the plug so they are warn down. So it will get new bearings and the gears from the one with half the miles on it.
