Finally got around to my first oil change this afternoon. There is so much dang room under there, it was a breeze.

The huge funnel will hold the whole jug of oil.

Only thing that can make it even better is the EZ drain valve. With that I put a hose on the end the drop it in the catch pan.

I didn't like the E Z drain valve, it just drained too slow. I put the stock bolt back. I too love the ease of changing oil in these trucks.

How do you all keep from making a mess with the oil running down the side of the filter? Poke a hole in the bottom and let it drain first?

Unless you've drained the Oil pan first or turn the oil filter enough turns to shut off the valve, You still get oil dripping down the side of the filter. It will drain way more oil than just what is in the filter. And that takes forever to come out a ice pick hole.

I use a 1 gal milk plastic milk container for the filter. I just cut it out, leaving the handle.

On the filter, I drive a scratch awl up from the bottom of the center of the filter. Then pull the drain plug, come back in the morning and all is good. no mess at all.
Works for me.

I put the Fumoto valve on my truck and yes, if the oil is cold it drains slowly, however, I can use a 5 qt drain pan and just drain off a pan at a time to go dump into my recycle jugs.. That way I am not juggling 13qts of oil in a huge heavy pan.

Filter changing is just a bit messier.. Crack the filter loose with it's own drain pan and wait for the drizzle to slow or stop..
If you can, it's a good idea to pre-fill the filter most of the way which will minimize the amount of time it takes to get oil pressure into the galleys to the bearings...

When I start mine after an oil chg, I shut it off the instant it starts -- 2-3 times. This helps fill the galleys and filter and causes no harm to the systems..

I just bought my 16' F250 yesterday and am thinking about dumping the oil and filter out at 1000 miles; just to rid the engine of any shavings from rings and bearings seating.

I'd run it till at least 3-4K miles before dumping it.

I've read in several places that Ford recommends 5000 miles before the first oil change. Any metal will be caught by the filter.

To the OP: We could have a picnic on your garage floor. Nice!

He**, everything, oil pan included, is too clean to be in my garage. I work on vehicles, I don't do open heart surgery.
