That is interesting.. another words, if you switch to 5W30 your engine will last longer, but you will violate your warranty..that doesn't make any sense.. I guess I will wait til my warranty is up and then switch over to 5W30..

So I can finally use up all that 5w30 oil I have stockpiled for vehicles that no longer call for it? 10w30 should be fine then too I presume?

I had asked an engineer that question before. He told me the bottom number was more important than the top number.

So does the switch include all 6.2's, or just the heavy duty trucks? For example, did the oil requirements change for a F150 with the 6.2?

It's just for the 2016 SD, the 6.2 is no longer available in the F150. But if you are out of warranty go for it, if Ford made no changes to it in 2016 and changed to 5W-30 what can it hurt.

It will be interesting when I take the truck into Ford for the next oil change.

I going to ask next time I get it changed but I'm under warranty so I expect that it will end up with 5W-20.

You guys can ask about it on your next trip to the dealer, but my guess will be that they'll tell you that they know nothing about what you're talking about. Then proceed to ask about where you're getting your info. At least that's always been my experience in the past.

I just had an oil change, in my 6.2L, at the dealer & they put 5w-30w in. When I asked about it the service writer said that is what Ford recommends for my truck.

Sounds about right to me. I have had a couple of very disappointing trips to the dealer where I purchased my new truck due to the fact they were overriding Ford and Michelin's recommendations for what they thought was better.
