While out of town for New Years I was driving down the road in my 09 Supercrew, I heard and felt a loud banging from under the truck. It appeared to be coming from the mid point of the truck. After having it towed to the local dealership, I learn the entire drive shaft needs to be replaced! Not just a ujoint, but the entire drive shaft; to the tune of over $1k!! The drive shaft alone is $842.00!
The mech tells me the front of the shaft and the hanger bearing were damaged.
I asked for and have the old shaft in the bed of my truck. Once I get home I will have my BIL check it out for me. He is a Master Ford mechanic who works on 250 and up Ford trucks. This will not recoup the $$ I paid, but it will give me peace of mind that I was or was not ripped off.
I'll post up some pics of the old shaft shortly.
Anyone else experience a similar issue with their drive shaft?
My BIL had some bad U Joints on his 04 F150, and ended up dropping the driveshaft on the road. There was a warning sticker on the shaft, that said to the effect, if this shaft is ever dropped, it needs to be replaced.
