Thanks ford-trucks got er fixed

My 2000 excursion died in the driveway while warming up and would not stay running after restarting it. Finally it would start and run on 4 cyl then die again. We'll after reading many many posts I decided to try and fix it myself. I am not a young man will be 70 on valentine's day, but not to be deterred off I went to purchase some tools.
Decided it was the UVCH on the passenger side that was bad. Of all the areas it would be that was not what I wanted to try for my first diesel eepair. They do not make a tool to reach the back three bolts on the valve cover. Try as I might just could not figure how to get them off. Into the wheel well I went and had to cut the splash guard to be able to get my hand in there with a wrench to get them off. Anyway cover came off and the UVCH was melted. So so glad I found a problem. Got the new one in and it started right up. No codes found so I should be good to go.
This forum is the only reason I would attempt to try a repair like this. There is a wealth of information here if you just spend time to research it.
Once again Thanks to all that have contributed to this forum.
Al

Al, glad you got it done. I'm only 66 but have been thur chemo three times with many operations and pills. I feel 90 but in reality am pretty good for all my suffering. First time I worked on mine I felt the same way. Took me three days to do a four hour job. Worst part is I now wear glasses, hands and feet don't feel very well any more but I give it hell when I have to. I'm here and the doctors say I'm free and clear for now. God bless glad you got her done.

Great job on getting it fixed and reporting back! Did you post questions, or did you dive in with just a search?

In answer to the frustrating part - search "13 mm flex socket". I learned this while working on an Excursion - that stupid wheel well is a bugger.

I didn't ask any questions, just did the research and dove in. There is a wealth of information on this forum if you just take time to search for your problem. Tugly had information on oming the 40 pin connector and if a problem was found ohm the 9 pin connector. That narrowed it down to the passenger side. So time to get in there and see what is going on. I appreciate the help you supplied me.

That's fantastic feedback. I agree with you on the volume of quality information contained in this site. Without it, I would have struggled to do what I've done so far.

Awesome! Glad to hear you fixed it, and that's a bit of an ambitious "first fix" on a 7.3!

And don't forget, you can support this website by being a member for only $20 a year, or $60 for three years with a free T-shirt. Link is https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/payments.php or go to the "Go Premium" tab above. From all the money I save every year due to this site, I am more than happy to help keep it going so that others have access to the knowledge and experience the members here have. I have found this site is typically faster and more accurate than most supposed "expert mechanics" in diagnosing and troubleshooting 7.3L issues.
